In March 2016, the DPRTE arms fair will come to Cardiff. Join Stop the Cardiff Arms Fair and help to shut it down!
According to its website, DPRTE (the Defence Procurement, Research, Technology and Exportability exhibition) is the “UK’s Premier Defence Procurement Event”. Since October 2014 the exhibition has been held annually at the Cardiff Motorpoint Arena, with exhibitors from around the globe selling arms to a wide range of brutal regimes.
The Arms Fair relocated to South Wales in 2014 because it had been driven out of Bristol by demonstrators. Local people including South Wales Anarchists, Stop NATO Cymru and other groups and individuals immediately resolved to show the arms dealers that there is no welcome for them in Wales either. Food Not Bombs Cardiff served food; protesters confronted the arms dealers and tried to get inside; and three arms dealers were covered in red paint as they tried to enter. Those accused of this action had their charges dropped when it came to trial, due to insufficient evidence.
We urge all that can to join the growing resistance in Cardiff, and in particular, to take action against this arms fair and all those taking part in it. There are lots of ways to get involved:
- Join the comms blockade of the Cardiff Motorpoint Arena, who will be hosting the arms fair, on Wednesday 17th February 2016
- Find out how to get more involved by joining the Stop the Cardiff Arms Fair workshop at the Cardiff Anarchist Bookfair, Saturday 20th February 17.00-18.00 at the Cathays Youth and Community Centre, 36 Cathays Terrace, CF24 4HX Cardiff
- Come to Cardiff, and join the Big Day of Action on Wednesday 16th March 2016
We know that when the rich make war, it’s the poor that die, and we won’t stand for business people profiting from racist mass murder, displacement and torture.
